Managing the complexity of sustainability

The future of fossil fuels is dim, to say the least. The writing is on the wall, as renewable energies have proven themselves and their technologies have got exponentially cheaper to produce. We all know this is the case, even those who would deny it, so we in the freight transport industry must plan accordingly. The inexorable march towards sustainability will sweep us aside otherwise.
The key issue during this transition period, however long it turns out to be, is how freight operators manage the complexity that will naturally arise as various global, national and regional alternative sustainable solutions are developed and tested. It is our contention that the resulting outcome could be a patchwork of transport vehicle types and infrastructure solutions that will need to be managed by freight transport operators, however large or small they may be. Only those with a sophisticated transport management solution (TMS) will be able to manage their way through the transition ahead. Operators who are using Software as a Service (SaaS) systems need not worry overmuch, as solutions are being worked on continuously in real time that will deliver the necessary management systems and tools as the needs arise. However, we also believe that a TMS should not only handle general freight management but also the recording and reporting of the carbon impact of every individual transaction. If you believe that this is pie-in-the-sky thinking, contact Bashir Khan here and he will show you how these kinds of solutions are already being delivered using CarrierNet.
